CoolSculpting Vs Liposuction – Which is better?
In the last part of our complete guide to CoolSculpting we looked at the science behind the treatment. In this part we’re going to look at how CoolSculpting compares to liposuction.
Prior to CoolSculpting being approved by the FDA in 2010, liposuction was considered by many people to be the only option for removing stubborn fat deposits from the body. However, now CoolSculpting procedure in Sarasota has been firmly established as a successful and non-invasive spot fat reduction treatment, patients have a decision to make.
CoolSculpting pros and cons
First let’s look at the pros and cons of CoolSculpting.
Pros
- Non-invasive – This is one of the biggest advantages of CoolSculpting. A lot of people do not like the idea of having surgery so CoolSculpting is much more appealing
- Reduces fat by up to 25% per session – Because it’s a non-invasive procedure, you might assume that CoolSculpting is not that effective but that’s not true. Fat can be reduced by 20-25% in a given area after just one treatment.
- No downtime–Another big advantage of CoolSculpting is that it doesn’t come with any downtime so you’re able to get back to your regular activities immediately.
- Fewer risks – Although CoolSculpting isn’t completely risk-free, the risks are minimal compared to liposuction.
Cons
- Can be painful for some patients – Although severe pain is very rare, some patients do find that CoolSculpting is quite painful but it’s usually tolerated.
- Not as dramatic results compared to liposuction – More fat can be removed with liposuction when compared to a single CoolSculpting session.
Liposuction pros and cons
Below are the pros and cons of liposuction.
Pros
- Fat can be targeted more aggressively–Because liposuction is a surgical procedure, fat can be targeted more aggressively and more can be removed at one time.
- Results are more immediate – CoolSculpting kills fat cells very gradually over a period of months, whereas liposuction removes the fat from the body in a very direct manner, allowing for more immediate results.
- Wide availability – Because liposuction is such a common procedure, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a surgery where you can have it performed.
Cons
- Surgical risks – Any type of surgical procedure carries a risk of infection and this is true with liposuction too.
- Greater downtime – There are a few days of downtime with liposuction and strenuous activities should be avoided for a few weeks following surgery. This is not great for patients with active lifestyles.
- Can be painful – It’s not uncommon for patients to experience some pain and bruising in the treated area in the days after surgery.
Conclusion
Neither liposuction nor CoolSculpting are substitutes for a good diet and regular exercise. This is to say that they shouldn’t be viewed as a treatment for obesity; rather a way to get rid of stubborn fat deposits in certain parts of the body.
Which is better for you will depend on how you feel about surgery, the level of fat reduction required and which parts of your body you want to be treated. Look at the pros and cons of each treatment and you should come to the right decision.
