Benefits of microwave therapy
No smoke, no anaesthetic, no post-procedural dressing
Microwaves have been in clinical use for over 30 years and are used globally in the effective treatment of cancer
With limited post procedural pain and no need for dressings, patients can get on comfortably with their daily lives
With a growing database of successful treatments around the globe, Swift is quickly establishing itself as a reliable and effective treatment option
Why is Swift® so much quicker than other treatments?
The use of microwave energy is what makes a Swift treatment so quick. Swift delivers a precise, highly controlled energy dose to a pre-determined depth into the skin. The latter part is crucial, and is what sets Swift apart from traditional treatments. As microwaves travel to a pre-determined depth, they don’t break the surface of the skin and destroy tissue from the point of application – like Cryotherapy, Salicylic Acid or Laser Ablation. As soon as the treatment begins, microwaves are working within that defined field – and no deeper. Water molecules within the tissue begin colliding and creating localised heat energy, targeting the root cause of the issue. The graphic below highlights the targeted zone within which a treatment takes place.
Shorter appointment times
Quick and efficiency energy delivery and limited preparation required; treatment times can be significantly reduced when compared to alternative modalities.
No dressings usually required
As microwaves do not break the surface of the skin, the requirement for post-procedural padding or dressings is greatly reduced
Cleaner. Simpler. More repeatable and more reliable than traditional treatments. A revolutionary product that will change your practice.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Swift®?
Swift is an innovative skin therapy, developed in the UK, which is now available in the United States. Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue.
How Does Swift Work?
In order to deliver energy into the body, microwaves are produced inside a unique, compact generator. As soon as the treatment begins, Swift delivers a precise, highly controlled dose of microwaves that work within a pre-determined field – and no deeper. Water molecules within the tissue begin colliding and creating localized heat energy which targets the root cause of the condition.
Does it hurt?
Like many treatments for skin lesions, some minor discomfort may be experienced. Pain levels vary from person to person but most people undergoing Swift liken it to a pain similar to an injection or a scratch, lasting 2 – 3 seconds then quickly subsiding.
What can I do after treatment?
In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not prevent you undertaking normal daily activities.
How many treatments will I need?
This is dependent on how you respond to treatment. We are seeing most lesions resolved with 2-3 treatments, with gaps of 4 weeks between treatments. Your Clinician will be able to discuss this with you in more detail.
Can anyone receive this treatment?
With a few exceptions, most people with skin lesions would be able to have this treatment. Your Podiatrist or Dermatologist will carry out an assessment prior to treatment and be able to advise you on this.
How safe are Microwaves?
Microwaves are a form of non-ionising radiation, which means that they can’t cause damage to the DNA of living things. The same fundamental technology that powers Swift, is also being used in the treatment of lung, liver, kidney and breast cancer in countries all over the world.
Are there any harmful side effects?
There are no harmful side effects to the Swift Treatment. The treatment is not recommended for patients with pacemakers and you should avoid interaction with metal implants. Do not point the Swift Applicator at the eyes or the testes.
How painful is the treatment?
Moderate pain is reported with some patients. This pain is short lived, occurs only during the treatment and very rarely extends beyond the procedure. Compared to other treatment options, Swift is typically reported as being less painful.
