We have practiced in Sarasota since 2001.
Dr. David Sax founded University Park Dermatology & Medical Spa in 2001. Twenty-five years later we see the same families across three offices — University Park, Lakewood Ranch and South Sarasota.
Florida gives us more sun than almost anywhere in the country, and skin cancer here is not rare. A meaningful part of what we do happens outside the exam room: screenings, awareness events, local media, and simply showing up in the community we serve.

Skin cancer awareness
Melanoma awareness and early detection.
Melanoma accounts for about 1% of skin cancers diagnosed in the United States and the large majority of skin cancer deaths. Early detection changes that outcome more than any treatment we offer — which is why we put effort into public awareness rather than waiting for patients to find us.
Annual awareness campaign
We mark Melanoma Monday each May with public education on what a suspicious spot actually looks like, and how to check your own skin between visits.

Dr. Sax appeared on SNN Channel 6 to walk viewers through the warning signs of melanoma and why early detection matters so much in Florida.

Dr. Sax has been named a Sarasota Magazine Top Doctor every year from 2012 through 2026 — fifteen consecutive years. Local media has also come to him repeatedly for dermatology expertise: on skin cancer, on skin maintenance, and on new technology as it arrived in the region.
